We're Hiring: Communications Coordinator

The American Packrafting Association is growing, and we're looking for someone to grow with us.

As the packrafting community has grown, so have your requests: more events, more resources, and more chances to gather, paddle, and learn from each other. We've heard you, and we're ready to deliver. To do that, we're bringing on our second staff member, and we couldn't be more excited.

Our new Communications Coordinator will be the engine behind much of what members see from the APA: our social media, newsletters, website, and events. Just as importantly, they'll keep the day-to-day operations running smoothly behind the scenes, freeing up time and energy for the programs our members care about most.

If you love packrafting, thrive on organization, and want to help a small nonprofit make a big impact, we'd love to hear from you. Not the right fit yourself? Please share this post with a friend who might be!

About the Role

The American Packrafting Association is creating a new Communications Coordinator role to take on communications, administration tasks, and event-logistics. This role will keep the APA's back office running while producing day-to-day communications and executing event logistics under the direction of the Executive Director.

Key Job Functions

Communications, Marketing & Website (45%)

  • Create and schedule social media content and manage day-to-day posting.
  • Meet social media and communication KPI’s set by the executive director.
  • Produce APA's member newsletter and other routine outreach content.
  • Own day-to-day website management: content and page updates, basic site edits, and routine maintenance (broken links, outdated info); coordinate with an outside developer for larger changes. Comfort with CMS and direct Webflow experience is a plus but not required.
  • Support member-facing communications: renewal reminders, welcome emails, and perks updates.
  • Support donor and sponsor communications with newsletters and impact reports.

Event & Program Logistics Support (30%)

  • Execute event logistics under the direction of the ED: registration processing, participant communications, promotion, vendor and venue coordination, and permits.
  • Recruit and support event volunteers; help manage day-of logistics at events.
  • Prepare post-event summaries and process volunteer refunds and related admin.
  • Support the Ambassador Program with recruitment coordination and ongoing communications.

Operations & Administration (25%)

  • Monitor APA's general inbox and PO Box, responding to routine member and public inquiries.
  • Track and manage recurring subscription and vendor renewals (Google Workspace, Adobe, SignNow, GrantStation, and similar tools).
  • Process membership mailings, renewal notices, and database uploads/updates; support member communications alongside the ED’s membership strategy work.
  • Support bookkeeping: QuickBooks data entry, monthly reconciliation prep with the Treasurer, and gathering documents for the outside accountant at tax time.

‍

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in nonprofit administration, marketing, event coordination, or a related field.
  • Strong project management skills and proficiency with project management tools.
  • Graphic design skills and/or comfortable creating social media content and basic marketing materials (e.g., Canva or Adobe Express/Creative Suite).
  • Technical proficiency: Google Workspace, CRMs, email/newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp or Constant Contact), and website CMSs (direct Webflow experience is a plus, not required).
  • Highly organized and comfortable with routine, process-driven work across many small tasks.
  • Able to work independently and manage competing deadlines with light day-to-day supervision.
  • Familiarity with the sport and culture of packrafting is preferred but not required.

Location

Candidates local to Southwest Colorado (Montezuma or La Plata County) are preferred. Remote candidates are also encouraged to apply and will be strongly considered based on experience and fit with the organization.

Occasional work travel may be required (to annual national RoundUp and regional MeetUp events), typically 2-3 times per year.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $38,000 per year, for 4 days (32 hours) per week. There is a strong possibility to move up to 40 hours per week at the same hourly rate within 6 months, based on the success of fundraising efforts.

Benefits include a health insurance stipend, 2 weeks paid vacation, 1 week sick leave, and 3% matching 401(k)

How to Apply

Please send a resume and cover letter to info@packraft.org by October 13th, 2026. A portfolio or a few samples of your marketing, writing, or social media work are encouraged but not required.
