In the fall of 2016, Glacier National Park administrators announced a temporary boating ban to protect Park waters from the threat of invasive mussels, which were recently discovered in central Montana. APA supports aggressive measures to protect pristine Park waters, but questions why a concurrent ban on streambed wading was not instituted. Read the closure press release and APA’s response to Superintendent Jeff Mow in the important links above.
In addition to the threat of invasive mussels, noise from scenic helicopter take-offs, landings, and overflights is a growing problem in and around Glacier National Park. We believe the skies around Glacier should be kept free of scenic overflights to preserve the natural quiet, protect wildlife, and preserve the gift of challenge that wilderness offers to mankind. Hence, we have joined the Quiet! Glacier Coalition to add our voice to the millions of people speaking out for quiet in Glacier Park.
